As our website nears completion, we will use this space to give you just a quick glimpse of Shard Villa. The Villa has provided residential care in a warm, respectful, family-style environment for seniors from generations of local families, and for many who come from further away. In addition to providing Residential Care, we also provide Respite Care on a day, multi-day, or weekly basis.

    As you’ll see, when the website is finished or when you visit, we are not an institutional-style residence "facility." Rather, we strive for a down-to-earth, cozy, B&B-type environment for our residents who enjoy the parlors and dining area in the original mansion, and chatting with staff while looking for snacks in the kitchen. The gardens produce seasonal vegetables and herbs for our home-cooked meals, and flowers for the parlors and other rooms.

    A large brick addition to the west provides cozy private space and bedrooms. In warm months the porches and verandas provide views overlooking the vast expanse of the grounds, with the Adirondacks to the west and Green Mountains to the east.

    Bedrooms are comfy, with your furniture or ours. They await your decorative choice in paints or wallpapers, have private bathrooms, and lovely views. Pets are welcome as well—we've had all sorts over the years, cats, dogs, birds, fish.

    Residents have many options for activities—Middlebury, Burlington, and Rutland are an easy drive and we make arrangements for whatever activity is wanted. Of course, we have a number of "in-house" activities as well. Although we aim to keep as active and busy as possible, we are very sensitive to the need for privacy and quiet. Our location in the Champlain Valley is perfect for relaxing and enjoying the beauty, peace, and quiet of rural life.

   Come visit us—we may well be exactly what you've been seeking, for yourself or a loved one. Prospective residents and family members are welcome any time— join us for a meal!
